What might respecting sex workers look like? I’ll give some examples!
• You don’t assume that sex workers are less smart, intellectual, or otherwise gifted than other people you meet.
• If someone you know tells you that they provide sexual services for money, you don’t assume that they have low self esteem, are coping poorly with past trauma, or that there’s something wrong with them in general. You respect their ability to make intelligent choices about how to make money, what they do with their body, etc.
• You recognize that some sex workers enjoy their work, some view it as a grueling job like many other un-fun forms of work, and some are in a tight spot and would really prefer not to provide sexual services for money. You assume that they are the most qualified person to make decisions about what is best for their life.
