How to Get Your Sex Positive Creations to the Masses

11/6/2015

If your creations are physical items (zines, books, illustrations, art pieces, worksheets, stickers, etc.)

  • Get a table at sexuality-related conferences and events.

  • Get a table at zine fests, comic conventions, book fairs – Whatever your creations are.

  • Find a zine distributor (distro) to carry your zines. This will likely consist of them tabling at zines fests and events, with your zines and zines by other people.
  • List your items for sale on Etsy, on your website, or on another online selling platform.

  • If you don’t need compensation, put them in Little Free Libraries, free tables at stores (i.e. book stores), etc.

  • Write on the back of your zine that people are welcome to make copies and distribute it themselves (be clear about whether you’re giving them permission to sell your zine, or to give it out for free).

  • If your zine is educational, colleges might want to keep it in their health center waiting rooms, or to pass it out at events, etc. Email people that work at these places (google colleges and look at their staff pages for someone who seems relevant. Say in your email that if they’re not the right person, could they put you in touch with someone who is?)

  • Read excerpts from your zine aloud at open mics and/or zine readings.

If your creations are digital items (videos, podcasts, blog posts, web comics, online erotica, etc.)

  • Videos: YouTube, Vimeo, etc.

  • Create social media accounts (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to post about your work.

  • Create an email list where people can sign up to get your email newsletter that tells them what you’re working on. I recommend Mailchimp.

  • Search for relevant calls for submissions (zines, blogs, art projects, etc.) to submit your work to.

This isn’t a complete list! I am genuinely interested in hearing other ideas for getting your work out there. Feel free to share in the comments!
